What happened to tilikum is that in SeaWorld announced in March 2016 Tilikum's health was deteriorating, and it was thought he had a lung infection due to bacterial pneumonia, a common cause of death in captive and wild whales and dolphins. ... On January 6, 2017, SeaWorld announced that Tilikum had died early in the morning. What I learned yesterday is that During his life, Tilikum, the largest orca in captivity, weighed 12,500 pounds and measured over 22 feet in length. Tilikum was captured near Iceland in November of 1983, over 30 years ago. At only 2 years old, when he was approximately 13 feet long, he was torn away from his family and ocean home.
